USS Russell UAP Swarm

July 2019 — Pacific Ocean, off San Diego, California, USA

The Events

In July 2019, multiple US Navy destroyers operating off the coast of Southern California encountered swarms of unidentified aerial objects over several consecutive nights. The USS Russell, USS Kidd, and USS Rafael Peralta all reported objects that hovered, maneuvered, and paced the warships for extended periods. The encounters occurred in restricted military training areas.

Pyramid UAP Video

Night vision video captured aboard the USS Russell shows triangular or pyramid-shaped objects with blinking lights hovering above the ship. The video, confirmed as authentic by the Pentagon in 2021, shows multiple objects maintaining stable positions relative to the moving vessel — behavior inconsistent with conventional drones or aircraft, which would need to actively compensate for the ship's movement.

Swarm Behavior

The objects displayed coordinated swarm behavior, operating in groups of four to six. They demonstrated the ability to hover indefinitely, ascend and descend rapidly, and maintain fixed positions relative to moving vessels. Their endurance exceeded known drone capabilities — operating for hours in maritime conditions without apparent refueling or recovery operations.

Official Response

The incidents were investigated by the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF). Ship logs obtained through FOIA requests confirmed the encounters. While some analysts have proposed that the objects were advanced foreign drones, no known drone technology matches the observed capabilities, and the incursion into restricted US military waters by foreign surveillance platforms would itself represent a significant security event.
